Description
My mother on her death bed said she had a very wasted life. I was so shocked by that statement. This was a woman who had everything the material world had to offer and yet she was continuously depressed and resentful. But she was my mother and I loved her. My heart ached that she never could feel anything except discontent. So with that being said, I painted the pain and depression within her. I know in my heart she is at peace now in some other realm. Her soul is set free.

Thank you John for your words and you are spot on with the tragedy of this lady. I updated what the painting is about. True story and a very sad one indeed. Thank you for your friendship and support of my artwork. So on we go creating the many facets of the human condition.

This is so deeply compelling. There seems to be a tragic reflection in those eyes. I'm amazed by the stories being told by that expression.

Thank you Andreas for the comment and compliment of this painting. The light and shadow, surface and depth. Yes I do see and feel the contrasts.

Dear Carolyn, I am deeply impressed by your ability to see and express inside and outside, light and shadow, surface and depth at the same time. Hopefully we will not be blinded and will be able to recognize these contrasts as early as possible. There is hardly anything more important in life. Only then can we make the right decisions. - Outstanding work! L/F

Hello Bunny and I really do appreciate you taking the time to comment on the portrait. There is quite a story within the painting. A woman who had everything in life or what she perceived to give her happiness ended up in her old age saying "I have had nothing but a wasted life". That was so shocking to me. As she had all the money, homes, trips, clothes you name it and yet empty inside. We artists will always have our art! It is a never ending river of creativity, imagination, emotions and passion. That woman was my Mother and she felt so cheated and sad. She is at peace now, I know it. Thank you for your words. Much appreciated.

Hello Anna and thank you so much for the compliment. I didn't see your comment until I went over to just my activity area instead of the regular activity page. So I do apologize for the timing to get back to you.
